The Beginning-From 1511 to 107

(written 7-18-2015)

As much as I hate to begin this blog with a sad, sappy post, I feel it’s only fitting to address the source of my unwavering anxiety over the previous semester & the past few summer months. Although my time here at Mizzou is not quite finished, I cannot say the same for the majority of my roommates & best friends. So normally, I’d walk away & leave the goodbye implied-avoiding any kind of overly emotional interaction-but you all deserve better than that.

So this is it. It’s the bittersweet goodbye, the turning of pages, & the harsh reality that we’ve all been denying for so many weeks. In just a few short days we’ll each pack our bags one last time & walk through the foyer of 1511 as we have for the last two years, only this time we won’t be headed to class, or to chapter, or even to Big 12. We’ll each be headed in our own directions, taking the first few steps down the different paths we’ve all chosen. This time, unlike the previous two years, we’ll be doing it alone.

I’ve always heard that your college roommates can make or break you & your college experience, & with any luck – you find the kind who make you. So I’m not quite sure what I was thinking when I agreed to move in with 10 other girls, 9 of whom were complete strangers to me, but I knew it couldn’t possibly be that bad when I was offered a beer within 30 seconds of walking through the front door… & I was right. You guys became my immediate friends, library partners, tour guides, El Rancho dates, romantic consultants, drinking buddies, family, & so much more.

In this frenzied & chaotic time I think it’s important to take time to acknowledge these people:

Natalie, Jess, Carol, Elle, Mary, Rachel, Mackenzie, Alyssa, Julia, Beth, & Hayley,

Thank you guys for making these last two years in the big yellow house on Wilson more amazing, exhausting, outrageous, & hilarious than I could’ve ever imagined. I honestly can’t imagine my life without you all in it & I hope I never have to.

Cheers to all the past memories at 1511 & the memories to come at 107!
